Legal Coaching - Self Representation
During tough economic times, people’s needs for legal services increase tremendously. Unfortunately, they might not have the financial resources to hire an attorney. While those below the poverty level are able to qualify for free legal advice, middle class clients – who are barely able to pay their everyday bills – can find themselves in predicaments where they have to completely drain their limited financial resources to hire an attorney to represent them in a traditional litigation. This is especially challenging with family law cases that require litigants to pay hefty advance retainers in order to start a case.
If you are facing such a challenge and are interested in learning how you might represent yourself in court, we can provide you with legal coaching at reasonable price.
We will meet with your to review what is involved for your particular case to determine if self representation is a good option for you. If it is, we will coach you on to proceed. This would include coaching consultations and helping you prepare documents through the “unbundled or limited scope services” model. In this model, you are not retaining us to represent you, rather you from start to finish, rather you are retaining us for a specific limited task. This enables us to counsel a client who is representing themself, during a court case and to prepare a specific document, or to respond to a specific letter.
Our Self Representation Assistance Services Include
- Offering legal advice and information during a consultation
- Coaching clients on how to negotiate with other parties
- Coaching clients on what to expect and how to behave in court
- Helping draft an answer or complaint, without a full representation retainer
- Preparing discovery documents in a litigation case or a motion
- Appearing in court in a limited capacity
These unbundled services help clients save a lot of money by being able to get the benefit of legal advice and then do their own case work, instead of having an lawyer handle all of it. While this approach is not a panacea for all types of cases, it does provide some people with an effective method of obtaining competent legal help for certain types of cases.
